VIGILANT
There are so many inspiring wildlife photographers that capture beings of nature so well. Neil Patrick is one of them! I had never heard of a Red Kite until coming across his stunning work. Not only do I have a fascination with big cats, but many who’ve been following my art since the hobby days know that I love birds as well. I knew had to capture this captivating image in acrylic. This painting was also the first time I experimented with gold foil, a medium I know love working with.

DID YOU KNOW?
Red kites are resident in the milder parts of their range in western Europe and northwest Africa.
Red kites are carnivores and scavengers feeding mainly on small mammals such as mice, voles, shrews, young hares, and rabbits. They will also hunt live birds and occasionally reptiles and amphibians.
Red kites are monogamous and they mate for life.
The main threats to Red kites include poisoning, through illegal direct poisoning and indirect poisoning from pesticides, and changes in agricultural practices causing a reduction in food resources.
Red kites like to decorate their nests with paper and plastic materials; they may even steal clothes that people left out to dry!
